General Information
The Building and Drainage Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of various Provincial legislation and policies including the Ontario Building Code Act, Drainage Act and Planning Act as they apply to buildings, structures and their occupancy and drainage issues as well as numerous municipal by-laws such as the Building Control By-law,
Zoning By-law, Nutrient Management By-law.
The Building Department is responsible for the review of construction projects for compliance with various municipal by-laws and provincial regulations and the issuance of permits within the Township of East Zorra-Tavistock. The department is also responsible for complaints regarding property standards, zoning and drainage. Other functions which are performed under this department are as follows; field inspections of all stages of new construction, legal response for clearance for zoning and building violations, processing and reviewing site plan control applications, commenting to the Oxford County Plan Department on applications for variance, consent and subdivision approvals, and also for the review and approval of non-provincial Nutrient Management Plans.
It is recommended that the
building permit application process be started well ahead of the construction schedule in order to avoid untimely delays.
